CircleBIM attends UDP Tagung 2026 under the motto “Dare to share”
On 23–24 February 2026, the Urban Data Platform Conference (UDP Tagung 2026) took place at the conference centre of the Landesbetrieb Geoinformation und Vermessung (LGV) in Hamburg, bringing together experts from administration, research, and industry to discuss the future of urban data platforms and their role in digital city development.
Held under the motto “Dare to share”, the conference focused on how open data, computing infrastructure, and interoperable tools can support better decision-making in urban planning, climate policy, and construction. Several presentations highlighted that modern urban data platforms must go beyond publishing datasets and also provide secure computing environments, APIs, and local processing resources to enable reliable and transparent use of data, including for AI-based applications.
A central topic of the event was the development of the Digital Twin of Hamburg and the broader strategy for connecting geodata, planning data, and simulation tools within a unified urban data infrastructure. Sessions demonstrated how digital twins and urban model platforms can support scenario analysis, data-driven planning, and cross-department collaboration within the city administration.
Particularly relevant for the CircleBIM project was the presentation of BIMFabrikHH, a workflow environment that allows geospatial data from the Urban Data Platform to be automatically converted into IFC models and used directly in BIM processes. The system enables planners to generate building and city context models from official geodata, combine them with their own designs, and visualize them in browser-based viewers without the need for specialized software. This approach supports standardized, open, and reproducible workflows, which are essential for circular construction and digital building permits.
Participation in the UDP conference provided valuable insights into current developments in digital urban infrastructures and created new opportunities for exchange with stakeholders working on smart city platforms, geodata, and BIM-based planning. The event confirmed the importance of collaboration between cities, researchers, and industry partners to enable more transparent, efficient, and resource-aware construction processes through shared data and interoperable digital tools.
